DISEMBODIED
As we age, our body’s mobility and functions deteriorate. We learn to adapt to these forever changing limitations. Many of these adaptations involve science, technology and medicine. My work explores the boundary of our body’s limitations, and the ways that nature and man made technology aid in this fluctuation.
I photograph and digitally manipulate the body, isolate parts to remove it from its original context. The goal of these explorations is to make viewers think twice about what they are looking at and become hyper aware of their own bodies. I also photograph textures with a macro lens, magnify and blow them up larger than life. My abstract imagery strives to make viewers think about the inner workings of their bodies and realize that they know very little about the inside of their body. Our bodies are working extremely hard behind the scenes just to keep us going. It isn't until something goes wrong that we remember to appreciate the work our bodies do.
